Will you go R. Meltzer on us?

R. Meltzer is the author of 1987's The Aesthetics of Rock and co-writer of "Burnin' for You," and other Blue Oyster Cult numbers. More than a pioneer of the gonzo-beat style that eventually became "the style" for every rock mag under the sun, Meltzer was/is a living form of the wildly experimental truth. As he told Jason Gross in a 2000 interview, "I hate to say in retrospect that I was concerned with the truth, but I guess I was. It was just about keeping in touch with the primal ground from which all this music came." Amen and therefore, we throw down The R. Meltzer challenge: Write a poem, or tell us a story (fictional or non-fictional) in response to any of these three songs. The best piece in each genre will be published in the next issue of shaking like a mountain.

The three songs are: (click on the link to listen)

The Tortoise and the Hare - Matt Jennings

Gold Soundz - Pavement

Something in the Air - Thunderclap Newman
